Dragonfly and Daddy Long Legs

These are some pictures taken from my Gallery project at university. The pieces are made from metal and glass. The body of the insects are made from copper with steal for legs and the wings are made from glass, copper foil and watch cogs as well as wire for detail. Wing span of the dragonfly is approximately 40cm for scale.

The designs

Casino Commission

(2m x 2m)

This painting is one of a pair. It was commissioned by the Dusk Til' Dawn Casino in Nottingham to sit in thier foyer. It is an interpretation of the casino itself. The customer had asked me to create something that is specific to thier casino and bespoke as when it opened the artwork provided by the company to place on the walls were prints selected from a warehouse that were in several other casinos. It is so far one of the biggest pieces of work I have produced.

Festival Drawings. Boomtown Fair 2010

Chalk on paper.

Fire Sketches

These drawings were done at Alchemy Festival in Derbyshire. I had very little equipment but sat and watched a fire show with my daughter. Lots of differemt performers were using fire staffs, poi and various other fire apperatus. I enjoy using pastals on coloured paper as it enables you to be more free with my drawing.

Underground Paintings

These three paintings were done in 2008. I loved London as a teenager after living in a sleepy village in hampshire out in the sticks. I couldnt help but love the underground. I did a series of drawings and paintings of london and I could not help being inspired and fascinated by the  architecture. Unfortunately I only have record of these three paintings as I was moving around regularly at this time and most were given away without being photographed. The blue picture is small approx 15 x 15cm.  The red canvases are both 120cm by aprox 70 cm.

Painting Commission

This painting was done in 2009. It was a very large commission piece requested by a member of a family that I have often done paintings for in the past. The image is taken from the Pink Floyd album cover. The customer requested that I remove the pig balloon that is flying in the sky on the original picture and enlarge the image. I used acrylic on canvas and the canvas was 2m by 2m.

The Commission Project

These pictures are a selection of drawings I have been doing for my next project at university which is a commission piece. I have decided to follow on with the idea of using metal and glass to create another insect. This time a garden spider. As this piece is much larger then the previous project I have decided to use recycled metals. I have been collecting bicycle wheels and gear cogs off unused bikes as well as bike chain. I will use some copper sheet for fixings and reuse old gas piping for the legs of the spider.
